Phil's service

As summer arrives in all its glory, the temperatures will be rising, which means most people will be using their car’s air conditioner more often. Whether you’re headed out for a long summer road trip, or if it’s just for your short commute to work, you want to be cool and comfortable. Hopefully, you’re not having to worry about why isn’t your car AC not blowing cold air. The key to staying cool is to schedule an auto AC service before any problems occur.

You may be wondering how air conditioners stay cool. Air conditioning systems work on the principle that as refrigerant is compressed and cooled, and then allowed to expand in a repeating cycle, it will get very cold. If the air conditioner compressor is unable to create a high enough pressure, the refrigerant cannot be cooled.

So why isn’t your car AC blowing cold air? The air conditioner unit is exposed to constant stress from the heat of the engine, road debris, dirt, vibrations, quick stops, or hitting a curb or obstacle in the road. Cracks (even a tiny one), or loose connections can happen, allowing the refrigerant to leak out. Or, the electrical connections may be loose, a fan broken, or the condenser is blocked.

Some certified AC technicians recommend auto AC service twice a year—in the fall after summer’s hot temperatures, and again in the spring after winter’s cold temperatures. At a minimum, schedule an auto AC service once a year. You will reap several benefits from a fully functioning air conditioner, such as:

  • Improved fuel economy,
  • A more environmentally-friendly vehicle, and
  • Enjoy a cool and comfortable trip.

Word of Advice: If you haven’t already had an auto AC service performed after the close of winter, it’s not too late before the hot days of summer are here in full force.
