With freezing temperatures hitting most parts of the country, you may find that your vehicle is a little noisier and sluggish than usual.  It may be time for an oil change.  Many auto shops offer oil change coupons to make regular oil changes affordable.  At the same service, your auto mechanic can check out the other systems of your car for any potential problems.

Unfortunately, some drivers think that if they aren’t noticing any problems, they don’t have to be concerned about the quality of the oil change and filter they use.  However, just because you haven’t noticed any sign of problems from using inferior oil doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem lurking under the hood.

Why Use High Quality Oil?

Lower quality oils can deposit harmful contaminants into the engine’s lubricating system and cause corrosion.  Even before there are any visible symptoms of problems, damage can be done, and it may too late to bring the engine’s performance level back to normal.  Smart vehicle owners will stick to a high quality oil change for maximum protection of their vehicle’s engine.

Poor quality oils can contribute to sludge build-up formed by a combination of dirt, soot, partially burned fuel, oxidized motor oil, leaked coolant and condensed water vapor produced during combustion. Good-quality motor oil keeps these contaminants separated and held in suspension.  Have regular oil changes will help keep these contaminants drain out with the oil, rather than leave them behind as sludge.

If you have an older engine that has already passed the manufacturer’s warranty period, it is especially important to use a higher quality of oil.   Because older engines are more prone to wear and tear, they need better lubrication for engine protection and longevity.

Remember:  Check your owner’s manual or ask your auto mechanic for guidance on the right oil change for maximum engine protection.
