Just like a healthy heart keeps the human body going strong, so it is with your car battery. Without a battery, your vehicle doesn't have the power to start, move, or do anything else. That little black box under the hood is typically referred to as a “wet-cell” battery, i.e., a plastic cube containing sulfuric acid and lead, with two terminals coming out of the top or the side.

So how do you know if you have a bad battery in your car? Here are three very obvious signs that it may be time for a car battery replacement:

  1. Your engine cranks or turns over when you turn the key in the ignition, but your car won’t start.
  2. Your engine doesn’t do anything, no sounds at all and none of the lights or accessories work.
  3. Your vehicle randomly starts one day then doesn’t the next.

As the price of fuel slides up and down, many vehicle owners have down-sized into more fuel-efficient cars. It appears that many drivers would rather trade in their older car for a new one rather than spend a little on quality auto service to keep it running for a while longer. Unfortunately, the price of new vehicles is also going up. Thus, it is more important than ever for vehicle owners to take their current car into their auto center for scheduled maintenance items. This will help prevent paying out big bucks on costly auto repair.

A study conducted several years ago by Kelton Research but that is still true today showing that nine-in-ten American vehicle owners think they do a good job in maintaining their vehicle properly. However, the study indicated that only 41 percent of vehicle owners actually follow the manufacturer’s service recommendations. The study further reports that less than one-in-four of vehicle owners work with a qualified mechanic to develop an auto service plan.

Don’t be afraid to visit your auto center for needed vehicle maintenance. Your car will give you many miles of reliable transportation with quality auto service.

“Oh no, my vehicle keeps going left but I’m steering straight! Do I need a front alignment service or wheel balancing?” If you have owned a car for very long, you have probably had those same questions. Balancing and alignment issues aren’t always obvious right away and they tend to get worse over time. The problem is that it can be difficult to determine whether a tire needs to be balanced or if wheel alignment is needed.

Car misalignment is a condition when tires are not pointing in the same direction as the steering wheel. It can shorten the life of your tires by thousands of miles and compromise crucial steering and suspension parts.

Also, tires must be in balance to operate properly. This is why wheels are placed on a balancing machine and weights added to the rim before a tire is installed on a vehicle. Out-of-balance wheels make for an unpleasant driving experience in a number of ways.

If your vehicle has tired out of balance or is misaligned, here are a few issues you may experience as you drive down the road:

When to do wheel balancing and alignment on your vehicle? An all-wheel or front alignment service will preserve your tires, suspension and steering systems.
