To avoid the necessity for car repair, it would be wise for you to properly service your vehicle. What does that mean, however? What procedures do you have to do, and how often do you have to service your car? Here's a little bit of information on that:

Servicing Your Car

Servicing is a broad term that refers to all the various maintenance tasks that you need to have a repair shop do to your car throughout the course of ownership. Keeping these appointments will keep your car's vitals and power high. The answer to the question, "How often do you have to service your car?" can be found in the owner's manual. The manual will tell you everything that you need to do and all the time intervals that you have to pay attention to.

If you're wondering how often do you have to service our car, read your owner's manual & be sure to ask your trusted mechanic to help keep your car running strong.

Vehicle maintenance is not something that people should put off, especially during the cold winter months. Make sure you have a winter car maintenance  checklist so that nothing, no matter how small, is overlooked. Cold temperatures can cause even the smallest issues to potentially lead to an accident, getting stranded somewhere, or just having a bad day on the road.

Here are a few points to consider before heading out on wet or icy roads:

  1. Check your tires! If you are driving on tires without adequate tread, there is nothing more hazardous. The better the tread, the better your wheels will "grip" the road, leading to less slipping and sliding, and much safer driving. Also make sure the inflation pressure is correct as well.
  2. Check the Fluids! Be sure that all fluids are topped off. This includes antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid, oil, coolant, and even gas. Choose a windshield fluid that is formulated for cold temperatures so that it won't freeze in the tank. Keep your gas tank filled to at least halfway. This can be a lifesaver if you happen to get stuck in traffic or road construction, spend a lot of time warming up your vehicle, or simply get busy and run out of time.
  3. Check the Wiper Blades! Be sure that the wiper blades work properly. This is important to clear off snow and ice, and to keep windows clear from dirt and dust from rock salt and road debris.
  4. Have an Emergency Kit! Be prepared with extra gloves, a snow brush, a phone charger, a blanket, road flares, and some snacks and water. Having these items on hand can help turn a disaster into a minor inconvenience.
Be ready for winter driving by following the vehicle maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual. Ask your mechanic for a winter car maintenance checklist

Are Snow Tires the way to go this Season?

It's that time of year again. The sleigh bells are ringing and tires are squeaking because the weather is changing and it's time to prep your vehicle for the winter. Most tire service centers would advise their customers to purchase snow tires in preparation for bad weather. Winter tires are made to perform in winter conditions by providing more traction. Tire service technicians advise that the rubber on snow tires is more flexible and allows the tire to grip the road better than fair weather tires. Additionally, the deeper tread patterns reduce snow buildup and expel water better.

The only bad thing about purchasing winter tires is locating additional storage space for the tires in the spring and winter months. Unfortunately, these tires must be switched out as the temperature begins to increase because the rubber compound material starts to disintegrate in higher temperatures. Wondering how much do winter tires cost? Call your auto shop for expert advice on what kind of tires to use and how much they will cost you.

To find out how much do winter tires cost, Call Phil's Service Tire Shop for tire service & to schedule an appointment for new tires.
